The Institute of Manufacturing Technology (LFT) and the Institute of Polymer Technology (LKT) have published an article in the Journal of Advanced Joining Processes as part of their joint research project in the TRR285 "Method development for mechanical joinability in versatile process chains". The following paragraph provides an initial overview of the topic of the article.

oining metal components with thermoplastic composites by embedding pin structures is a promising new mechanical joining technology for the production of lightweight hybrid components. The current state of the art is unclear as to the influence of pin size and arrangement in a multi-pin array on the mechanical performance of the resulting joints. In this study, various pin arrangements were used to create joints between stainless steel and unidirectionally reinforced thermoplastic composites.
