Abstract
Within the scope of this
research project, the application potential of tool sided tailored surfaces in
a forward extrusion process was analyzed. A central objective of this work was
the investigation of the the impact of industrial influencing factors on the
forming results. Surface treatment of the tools was conducted using abrasive
blasting and laser polishing, which was integrated as a new procedure in the Collaborative
Research Center TR73. In order to analyze the applicability of these surface
modifications in an industrial series process, their influence on the fatigue
strength of tool steels as well as on the forming conditions and resulting component
properties was determined in the course of the investigation.
