Abstract
The hot stamping process has been established as a manufacturing process for the production of ultra-high-strength components. The process is based on a martensite transformation when quenching rates exceed a theoretical value of 27 K/s. Investigations have already shown that the process-side parameters can significantly influence the critical cooling rate and thus the resulting microstructure formation. The goal of the research project is to develop a fundamental understanding of the heat transfer mechanisms involved in hot stamping and the dominant influencing variables in order to derive a physically based model. This is the basic prerequisite for the precise representation of all relevant sub-processes in hot stamping and will enable the transfer and application of simulation models and results to thermally assisted material processing methods in the future.
